Press Release - February 2011
Customers Say Technical Challenges Are Main Obstacle to Following SAP's BI Roadmap
Wellesley Information Services (WIS Publishing), Dedham, MA
(February 2011)
A new report from insiderRESEARCH reveals that technical integration is the #1 challenge companies must face when following the SAP BI roadmap. Based on a survey of more than 300 SAP customers and consultants, the report finds that technical challenges rank ahead of budget, staffing, and understanding of BI applications when it comes to planning and executing an SAP BI project.
SAP announced that SAP BusinessObjects products would be the strategic direction for user-facing business intelligence (BI) shortly after acquiring Business Objects in 2008. Three years later, insiderRESEARCH finds that while 76% of customers say they are committed to following the roadmap, a majority of that group (52%) remains in the evaluation phase.
“Many companies are in a holding pattern right now,” says Davin Wilfrid, senior analyst at insiderRESEARCH. “They intend to follow the SAP BI roadmap, but they need more clarity into how the SAP BusinessObjects products fit their business needs, and to be better prepared for the unique challenges posed by an integration project.”
The insiderRESEARCH report, called The SAP BI Roadmap: Perceptions, Challenges, and Opportunities for SAP Customers, clarifies some of the most confusing aspects of the SAP BI roadmap and offers decision makers invaluable guidance based on:
- Insight into what their peers are doing
- Clarity into the SAP BI roadmap
- Objective analysis of the challenges of following the SAP BI roadmap
- Real-world advice for navigating those challenges
Other key findings
The report also found that:
- Only 15% of SAP customers track the ROI of their BI initiatives
- More than half of respondents (62%) say their end users do not have the skills necessary to get the most out of SAP BusinessObjects applications
- While most respondents (62%) say they do not have enough information about the SAP BI roadmap, a large majority are able to correctly identify the primary function of each application on the roadmap
- Almost half of respondents (44.5%) say gathering requirements for a BI project is “difficult” or “extremely difficult”
- Almost a quarter of respondents (24.1%) did not believe their consultants were capable of recommending the correct BI applications for their needs

Press Release - November 2010
SAPexperts simplifies web searches for complete, technical SAP® answers
Wellesley Information Services (WIS Publishing), Dedham, MA
(November 22, 2010) -
SAPexperts (www.sapexperts.com) has launched new Web sites for their nine online knowledgebases to further help SAP professionals find proven answers to their technical questions faster than they previously experienced.
Each of the SAPexperts knowledgebases focuses on a unique area of SAP technology such as business intelligence, financials, supply chain management, and more. Included in the SAPexperts series is a new Web site for the SAP Professional Journal knowledgebase – catering to SAP developers and administrators.
“Many of our subscribers told us they needed to find thorough, validated SAP instruction faster,” says Michael Nadeau, publisher of SAPexperts. “We already provide some of the most comprehensive and proven SAP answers and tutorials on the Web, but because many SAP professionals deal with tight project deadlines, getting those answers faster is crucial. With the new Web site layout, users navigate with fewer clicks and get the answers they need in seconds. That’s not something that other SAP-related Web sites can claim,” Nadeau continued.
Other Web sites for SAP professionals often provide only pieces of answers that are sometimes laced with hidden agendas, or they force users to spend time sifting through vast amounts of uncategorized information just to find answers that aren’t always verified.
“Companies spend an enormous amount of money on their SAP technology investment. They deserve comprehensive instruction, tutorials, and best practices from an unbiased source that can give it to them quickly all year,” says Robert Croce, product director of SAPexperts. “Customers are telling us that the new knowledgebase design helps them find complete answers to their technical SAP challenges more quickly,” Croce concluded.
About SAPexperts
SAPexperts consist of nine online knowledgebases produced by WIS Publishing – the leading independent provider of publications and educational events focused on SAP technology. The nine SAPexperts knowledgbases consist of Financials Expert, BI Expert, SCM Expert, HR Expert, CRM Expert, GRC Expert, Solution Manager Expert, Project Expert, as well as SAP Professional Journal.
